ABOUT
As COVID-19 swept the globe, billions of people found themselves on lockdown or in isolation— In response, Intra Art created a virtual art competition as a means for creative outlet.
Artists were encouraged to create using the optional prompt "Resilience" in five different categories: short film, dance, music, poetry, and visual/graphic arts. As an international competition, submissions were received from across the globe: from Los Angeles, CA to Vancouver, BC and all the way to Italy and Moscow.
Submissions reflected the collective trauma experienced in an isolated state and how artists continued to find an individualized way to make sense of the current situation and heal creatively.
“Throughout human history, when the night gets dark, we have gathered around campfires for stories and turned to artists to show us the light. Now, as we are asked to go inside our homes, we are asking artists to go inside themselves and share the stories and visions that will guide us in a positive way during this time of pause.”
— Eimanne Zein, Intra Art Organizer, Los Angeles, CA
“Many people are using artistic outlets as a way to cope and process the emotions created by the uncertainty of a global pandemic. Eimanne and I hope that by making Intra Art completely virtual, we can offer a digital platform to share with others and build an online community.”
— Anitra Paris, Intra Art Organizer, Vancouver, BC
